New Functional & Suspension Training

Functional exercise can improve health and wellbeing

A new functional and suspension training centre has been installed in Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre’s recently upgraded gym, allowing members to perform more movement-based, functional workouts.

“We know most of our members exercise to maintain or improve their health and wellbeing – and ultimately their quality of life. Functional training is a great way to do this,” said Health and Fitness Manager, Shannon Mounsey.

Functional training mimics real life movements, helping to prevent injury and improve flexibility and balance. It is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and injects variety into a regular gym workout. Functional training helps people perform everyday activities more safely and efficiently.

The new Outrace training centre includes suspension bands, gym ropes, ladders, lat bars and Olympic racks. Group training sessions will be held on the new Outrace and it will be available for use at all other times. More space for stretching and mobility exercises has also been created as part of the overall gym upgrade.

“Along with the new ‘smart’ cardio and weights machines, virtual fitness classes, online booking system and more space for stretching, the Outrace system completes our gym upgrade and delivers a state-of-the-art health and fitness facility for our members and guests,” said Shannon.

'What does March Forward mean to you?'

As we celebrate UN International Women's Day 2025, we asked some of our Peninsula Leisure Team members what 'March Forward' means to them.

For many, it symbolises the ongoing progress toward gender equality, the strength of women supporting one another, and the commitment to breaking down barriers whether that be in the workplace, at home, or our communities. At Peninsula Leisure, we love to empower women to prioritise their health and fitness in a safe and supportive environment.

So together lets continue to March Forward, as each step taken, brings us closer to a future where everyone, has the opportunity to thrive.
