Unplug24: Disconnect online, reconnect with what matters

On Saturday 24 October, Peninsula Leisure is joining people across Australia for Unplug24 – a 24-hour break from social media to raise awareness of online sexual extortion, suicide prevention and the importance of looking after our mental health.

For the second year running, our team is getting involved in this important initiative, and we’re inviting our members, customers and community to join us.

What is Unplug24?

Unplug24 was started by local dad Wayne Holdsworth, following the death of his 17-year-old son, Mac, after he was targeted in an online sexual extortion scam.

Held each year on 24 October, the anniversary of Mac’s death, Unplug24 encourages people to step away from social media for 24 hours and reconnect with the people and things that matter most.

Since launching in 2024, Unplug24 has grown into a movement involving hundreds of thousands of people across Australia, helping to raise awareness and start important conversations about online safety, mental health and suicide prevention.

Join us in getting offline

Taking part is simple: step away from social media for 24 hours on Saturday 24 October.

Use the day to get outside, catch up with family and friends, get active, spend time doing something you enjoy, or simply give yourself some space away from your feed.

For us, it’s a great reminder that while technology can help us stay connected, sometimes the best way to reconnect is to put our phones down and be present with the people and activities around us.

And if you’re looking for somewhere to spend some screen-free time, our Peninsula Leisure facilities are here to help you move, connect and enjoy time together offline.

Ready to unplug?

Join Peninsula Leisure and thousands of others across Australia in taking a 24-hour break from social media this Saturday 24 October.

🛗 Take the stairs - Skip the lift when you can.
🚗 Park further away - Add a few hundred steps before you've even started your day.
📞 Walk while you talk - Take phone calls or catch-ups on the move.
🌯 Do a lap at lunchtime - Even 10 minutes counts.
🖥️ Step on the spot - Take a minute, and get some steps in at your desk

As always, if you need any help or guidance in getting your 30-20-2, please don’t hesitate to speak with one of our friendly staff members, or visit our Digital Hub for some inspiration.
