Peninsula Leisure is encouraging Frankston families to build their water safety skills this summer, with three free or low-cost programs to help develop confidence in and around the water.

From free beach-based water safety Can Swim programs to subsidised swimming lessons and free pool entry, families can make the most of summer at Frankston Beach, Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre (PARC) and Pines Forest Aquatic Centre (PINES).

  1. Can Swim Beach Programs – free water safety programs

Peninsula Leisure’s Can Swim Beach Programs give children and teenagers aged 5–17 the opportunity to build confidence and learn essential water safety skills in a supportive beach environment.

Designed for beginners, the program introduces basic swimming techniques, safe behaviours and how to navigate shallow water.

  • When: 5–6 or 7–8 January 2027, with sessions running between 9am and 12.10pm.
  • Where: Frankston Beach.
  • Cost: Free, fully subsidised through Peninsula Leisure and Frankston City Council.

Expressions of interest are now open. Find out more at peninsulaleisure.com.au/can-swim.

  1. VICSWIM Summer Kidz – five lessons for $43

The VICSWIM Summer Kidz program offers children aged 4–12 five swimming lessons over one week for just $43, thanks to Victorian Government subsidies and Peninsula Leisure support.

When and where:

  • PINES: 4–8 January and 18–22 January 2027.
  • PARC: 11–15 January 2027.

Registrations open Wednesday 11 November 2026 at vicswim.com.au.

  1. Free Family Fridays at PINES – free pool entry and community BBQ

Families can enjoy free entry to the outdoor pool at PINES every Friday from 4pm throughout the summer season.

Located in Frankston North, PINES is a great place to cool off, get active and spend time together over summer.

Making water safety accessible

Peninsula Leisure’s PARC Swim Manager Sarah Mall said the programs provide families with practical, affordable ways to build water confidence and water safety skills.

“Water safety knowledge and skills are vital for everyone, and we want to make it accessible for our community. We encourage families to explore these opportunities and make water safety part of their summer plans.”

Swimming lessons and water safety programs help build skills and confidence, but active supervision remains essential whenever children are in or around water.
