Enhancing Safety with Lynxight Drowning Prevention Technology

At PARC, safety remains our priority. That’s why we are excited to announce we are introducing Lynxight, an AI-powered Drowning Prevention Technology that adds an extra layer of safety to support our lifeguard team and help keep our community safer in and around the water.

The Lynxight system utilises artificial intelligence to provide real-time monitoring, risk detection, and instant alerts to assist in preventing drowning incidents.

Lynxight is already in use at over 75 pools across Australia and has entered a strategic collaboration with Royal Life Saving Australia to enhance drowning prevention efforts nationally. The innovative drowning prevention system is designed to work alongside lifeguards, monitoring our Main 50m pool, Leisure Pool and Warm Water Pool through CCTV cameras and enabling our lifeguards to respond up to six times faster to potential emergencies.

The use of this technology will not change our current commitment to safety, with our current safety measures earning us accreditation under Life Saving Victoria’s Platinum Pool Program. Lynxight will add an additional layer of protection to help ensure everyone can enjoy our pools with even greater peace of mind.

As part of this system, our lifeguards will be equipped with smartwatches that are linked to Lynxight’s alert platform. These devices deliver real-time notifications, helping lifeguards respond quickly and decisively in those critical moments when every second counts.

Lynxight is expected to be operational in July, following an extensive calibration phase.

We’re proud to be leading the way in aquatic safety innovation and remain committed to delivering the safest possible environment for all visitors.

FAQs

  1. What is Lynxight?
Lynxight is an AI-powered drowning prevention system that enhances pool safety by using real-time monitoring and alerts to assist lifeguards in identifying potential risks faster. It provides instant alerts via smartwatches, significantly improving lifeguard response times – up to six times faster than traditional methods.

  2. Why is PARC introducing Lynxight?
Safety is our top priority. Lynxight provides an additional layer of protection by detecting potential drowning risks early, ensuring faster response times and improving overall supervision in the pool. With growing adoption across the country and support from industry bodies, we expect this technology to become the new industry benchmark for aquatic safety.
  3. Does this mean lifeguards are being replaced?
Not at all. Lifeguards remain essential to pool supervision. Lynxight is a support tool that enhances a lifeguard’s ability to respond quickly by providing instant alerts for potential risks. The cutting-edge technology is here to combat blind spots caused by water glare, crowds or water surface disturbance.
  1. How does Lynxight detect drowning risks?
Lynxight uses CCTV cameras and AI technology to analyse swimmer movement and detect signs of distress. If the system identifies a potential risk, it sends an immediate alert to the lifeguards’ smartwatches, allowing for an immediate human response.

  2. Will the system always detect a drowning?
While Lynxight significantly enhances safety, it does not replace active lifeguard supervision or our Watch Around Water Policy. Lynxight acts as an extra set of “digital” eyes to help reduce human error and improve response times.

  3. Does Lynxight record video footage of patrons?
Lynxight does not record high-definition video for surveillance purposes. The system focuses on movement detection and does not identify individual swimmers or capture any identified personal data.

  4. Where is the data stored, and who has access?
All data is stored securely on-site, with limited access to authorised personnel only. Select anonymised insights may be sent to the Lynxight cloud systems for the purpose of improving system accuracy, but no identified personal data is collected or shared.

  5. Will this change how I use the pool?
No, Lynxight operates seamlessly in the background, and your experience at the pool will remain the same.

  6. How will PARC ensure this system is used effectively?
Lifeguards and Duty Managers are receiving specialist training to ensure the system is integrated seamlessly and effectively into daily operations.

One of the most important systems in our facility is the boiler system, which heats our pools and showers. Unfortunately, we recently experienced an unexpected fault that impacted heating water. As a result, we’re fast-tracking a major replacement to this critical system to restore full comfort and ensure long-term reliability. To safely complete these works, the entire Main Pool Hall will be closed from Thursday 31 July to Monday 18 August.

The Warm Water Pool and Spa remain operating as normal.
