Let’s Move 2018 individual winner Simon Moon

Join us in the global campaign against obesity and sedentary lifestyles. More than just a cardio workout, the Let’s Move challenge puts your MOVES where they really count. Between March 11 – 30, your cardio workout could help a local community group win up to $10,000 worth of gym equipment.

PARC Fitness Experience Coordinator Christine Rich caught up with last years ‘Let’s MOVE for a Better World’ challenge individual winner Simon Moon to chat with him about his experiences and Let’s MOVE successes during the challenge.

This is how the interview played out:

Christine Rich: How many years have you participated in the Let’s MOVE for a Better World challenge?

Simon Moon: I have participated in the last 3 Let’s MOVE Challenges – 2016 and 2017 individually and as part of a team in 2018.

CR: We also know you have been the reigning champion in recent years for donating the most MOVEs? Are you planning to be PARC’s champ again in 2019?

SM: I’ll give it a red-hot go! My son is determined to win it from me though…. So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!

CR: Why do you keep participating year after year?

SM: It’s for a good cause and personally, I think it is a great challenge. The way that the Technogym ‘MOVEs’ algorithm equalises all participants in terms of age, gender, size, etc. makes it all about fitness and dedication. The limit of 2000 MOVEs per day is also a great way to keep it competitive for all participants.

CR: Why do you think the Let’s MOVE challenge is so important?

SM: Good physical fitness is so important for everyone. The challenge assists those not fortunate enough to have access to places like PARC achieve this.

CR: How often were you coming in to PARC during the challenge/working out for?

SM: Every day! You have to be in it to win it!

CR: What was your favourite piece of equipment to get your MOVEs up?

SM: I’m a bit old school – I like the Run Excite 700 treadmills and the Bike Excite 700 upright bikes

CR: Did you find yourself exercising more during the challenge than you usually would?

SM: I do. Especially cardio focused exercise that I would usually avoid!

CR: Did you make any goals for yourself during the challenge and did you achieve these?

SM: I’m competitive and I wanted to win – so I did! I also like to motivate others.

CR: Did you attend the launch and wrap up party? What are some of the things you enjoyed on the night that kept you motivated?

SM: For sure! A DJ, food and drink, prizes made for a good start and a good reward on completion, as well as mingling with other participants.

To get involved with the challenge (and try and knock Simon off the top spot!), register on the mywellness app, and connect your Garmin, Fitbit, or similar tracker to earn even more MOVEs throughout the challenge.

Did you know Dry Needling/Accupuncture is available from the Compass Allied Health team, located in our Allied Health Suites

Dry needling is a technique where a very fine needle is gently inserted into tight or painful muscles to release “knots” (trigger points). These tight spots can cause pain, stiffness, and reduced movement.

The goal? It help muscles relax, move better, and feel less painful.

Who can benefit?
• Athletes & active people
• Anyone with tight or stiff muscles
• Desk-related neck or back pain
• Headaches, sciatica, jaw pain (TMJ), or joint issues

Curious if dry needling is right for you? Get in touch with Compass Allied Health to book an initial consult with Jack (Giac).
⭐️ Swimming for a cause: Meet Clinton Hosie ⭐️

This February, PARC Aquatic Access member Clinton Hosie is taking on a new challenge - swimming 14km to raise funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation as part of their Super Swim.

Every minute of every day, a child in Australia is admitted to hospital. Clinton is diving in to help bring joy, laughter, and comfort to sick kids when they need it most.

We love seeing you at PARC putting in the laps, Clinton - your dedication in and out of the pool is inspiring.

Good luck, have fun, and thank you for swimming for such an important cause!

Still buzzing from the Waterfront Festival! 🎡

What an absolutely incredible event! A massive congratulations to our Frankston Skatepark team for pulling off such an massive activation. It was fantastic to see so many local riders on the half pipe, and seeing our community rally around them and enjoying the mini skate lessons!

Rotary Peninsula 2.0's annual Duck Derby was full of fun and chaos! It was so much fun cheering on our very own duck, Percy and Hydro, to the finish line.

Thank you so much @waterfrontfest for having us! We can’t wait for next year!
