Meet Darin Watson

PARC Trainer, Christine Rich caught up with PARC member, Darin, to learn more about his inspiring transformation:

“I’m really not sure if there is a silver bullet for better health and fitness however I have finally accepted the proven the basic fact that to be fitter and stronger your body requires less input and more output… which has really worked for me.

Even though I have never been a swimmer, it really was my kick start to improved health and fitness. As a low impact exercise routine swimming 1km 3 times per week at PARC helped me to transmission into adding 5k running sessions and group PARC Fit 3 times per week.

I have dropped 35kgs in 2 years which is just so awesome for a busy bloke like me. My life has genuinely changed with everything looking so much brighter for me now. I have more confidence and a stronger mindset to tackle just about anything….who would have thought I would be running a 6 x 21km marathons this year!

Don’t get me wrong, it has been hard, really hard to change my old comfortable habits and to accept that the amount of exercise and additional output required to keep myself in shape. It means earlier starts 3 to 4 times a week and probably 5 to 6 hours a week of combined swimming, running and group exercises to turn back the clock, but I wouldn’t change it for anything now. I enjoy allocating time to take better care of myself and to feel 20 years younger is amazing for a very happy 51 year old bloke.

It has been a great news story for me and if I can do it.. honesty anyone can.

Join us in going off social media for a day on 24 October.

Next Friday, on Friday 24 October, we are joining Unplug24, a 24-hour break from social media in solidarity with SmackTalk – an organisation founded by local Wayne Holdsworth to honour his son, Mac, and raise awareness around suicide prevention.

Unplug24 encourages us to step away from social media and reconnect offline to:
🔌 Protect mental health
🔌 Raise awareness to prevent suicide
🔌 Support vital education and awareness programs

Last year, more than 134,000 people took part, proving that sometimes the most powerful connection is offline. This year, SmackTalk is aiming to reach over a million participants in Australia and around the world.

Let’s join together and unplug from all social media for the day – at work and at home – to show our support for this important cause.

Restart a Heart Day at PARC this Saturday ❤️💙

Join us this weekend, on Saturday 18 October, for Restart a Heart Day, a vital community event that raises awareness about cardiac arrest and empowers people with lifesaving CPR skills.

Hosted by Monash University Paramedicine, this educational pop up in PARC's foyer will help build a safer, more prepared community.

Did you know that only 1 in 10 people survive a cardiac arrest? Most cardiac arrests happen in the home, so learning how to act fast could save the life of someone you love. Restart a Heart day will teach you how to respond in just three simple steps: CALL, PUSH, SHOCK.

Drop by PARC on Saturday morning between 9am – 12pm to learn from paramedics and paramedic students, who will be on hand to guide you through these critical steps and boost your confidence in delivering CPR.

Every minute counts when restarting a heart – let’s work together to improve survival rates!
