Supporting Our Community: Free Period Products available at PARC

We’re excited to be part of the Victorian Government’s Free Pads and Tampons in Public Places Program, and have two new smart sanitary product installed in our change rooms.

The smart dispensers will provide free access to essential sanitary products for members and guests.

Why this program matters

Access to period products is essential, but for many it’s not always easy. According to a recent Share the Dignity survey, 64% of people who menstruate found it difficult to afford period products in the past 12 months. The survey also found:

  • 83% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander respondents reported difficulty affording products
  • 21.5% could not afford products at all
  • 83% of gender-diverse people and 78% of people with a disability or chronic condition who menstruate experienced affordability challenges
  • Lack of access can impact physical health, mental wellbeing, and participation in daily life
  • More than half of respondents reported missing out due to their period:
  • 56% missed work
  • 63% missed school
  • 68% missed sport

This program is about removing barriers and ensuring that a normal part of many people’s lives doesn’t stop someone from being active, social, or engaged in their community.

How the dispensers work

The new smart dispensers are designed to be easy, convenient, and fair for all users:

  • Products are dispensed free of charge
  • Simply follow the instructions displayed on the front of the machine
  • A short delay between dispenses helps ensure fair access and reduces wastage
  • The units are connected to a real-time monitoring system that tracks usage and stock levels
  • Automatic alerts are triggered when stock runs low, allowing timely replenishment
  • The supplier is responsible for regular servicing and maintaining stock availability

The pack options are thoughtfully designed to support both immediate needs and provide products for later use — reducing the need for multiple visits throughout the day.

We’re proud to be participating in this program and helping support our community. By providing free access to essential products, we’re ensuring our members and guests can focus on their health and wellbeing without added barriers.
